Scalehouse Attendant / Laborer
Location: Glencoe, MN
Schedule: 1st Shift | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay Rate: $20.00/hr
Job Summary
The Scalehouse Attendant / Laborer serves as the first point of contact for customers depositing waste at the facility. This hybrid role will include both scalehouse and laborer responsibilities, depending on operational needs. Candidates will receive 1–2 months of training. Once trained, the weekly schedule will vary, typically working three days in the scalehouse and two days performing laborer duties. The role requires strong customer service skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.
Steel-toe boots are required.
Key Responsibilities
Scalehouse Attendant Duties
- Greet customers entering the facility and provide accurate directions and information.
- Correctly calculate customer payments and manage transactions.
- Inspect incoming waste loads to ensure safety and compliance with facility standards.
- Monitor customer and employee activity to ensure all safety rules and PPE requirements are followed.
- Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of the scalehouse.
- Complete administrative tasks such as filing, report preparation, and data entry.
- Keep supervisor informed of any issues requiring attention.
- Provide friendly, service-oriented support to customers, vendors, and employees.
- Attend required company meetings and training sessions.
- Work overtime as needed.
Laborer Duties
- Assist with general labor tasks around the landfill as directed.
- Support site operations using safe work practices.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 30 lbs occasionally.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma or GED; 0–4 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred: Additional or specialized training; prior experience in customer service, waste services, or industrial environments.

- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and facility regulations.
- Basic computer/data entry skills.
- Ability to take direction and work both independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment
- Frequent use of motor coordination and finger dexterity (data entry, equipment operation).
- Occasional physical exertion handling items up to 30 lbs.
- Exposure to outdoor elements such as dirt, odors, noise, and weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to occupational risks (chemicals, cuts, etc.).
- Primary work setting: Scalehouse, with regular outdoor labor duties.
