Purchasing Assistant (Hybrid – Detroit, MI)

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to support high-volume purchasing and accounts payable operations within a fast-paced business environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured setting, enjoys working with data and vendors, and can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

This is a hybrid role based in Detroit, MI, with at least 1 day onsite per week (more frequent during initial training).

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for invoice processing inquiries, resolving issues with internal teams and external vendors
  • Process full-cycle Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) activities with accuracy and efficiency
  • Create and manage:
    • Shopping carts
    • Purchase orders
    • Goods/service receipts
  • Review and maintain:
    • Parked invoice lists
    • GR/IR reports
  • Investigate and resolve vendor payment inquiries, ensuring timely follow-up
  • Process invoices and support vendor maintenance updates
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information
  • Screen and prioritize communications (email, calls, requests)
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure all work aligns with company policies, timelines, and cost-efficiency goals
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma required (Associate degree preferred)
  • 2–5 years of administrative, purchasing, or accounting experience
  • Strong experience in accounts payable/receivable preferred
  • Ability to manage high-volume transactional data with accuracy
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Business correspondence
    • Basic accounting principles
  • Intermediate proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • Database systems and online tools
  • Experience with SAP and/or SharePoint is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a matrixed organization
  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and vendors
