Purchasing Assistant (Hybrid – Detroit, MI)

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to support high-volume purchasing and accounts payable operations within a fast-paced business environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured setting, enjoys working with data and vendors, and can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
This is a hybrid role based in Detroit, MI, with at least 1 day onsite per week (more frequent during initial training).
What You’ll Do
Serve as a primary point of contact for invoice processing inquiries, resolving issues with internal teams and external vendors
Process full-cycle Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) activities with accuracy and efficiency
Create and manage:
Shopping carts
Purchase orders
Goods/service receipts
Review and maintain:
Parked invoice lists
GR/IR reports
Investigate and resolve vendor payment inquiries, ensuring timely follow-up
Process invoices and support vendor maintenance updates
Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information
Screen and prioritize communications (email, calls, requests)
Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure all work aligns with company policies, timelines, and cost-efficiency goals
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma required (Associate degree preferred)
2–5 years of administrative, purchasing, or accounting experience
Strong experience in accounts payable/receivable preferred
Ability to manage high-volume transactional data with accuracy
Solid understanding of:
Intermediate proficiency in:
Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Database systems and online tools
Experience with SAP and/or SharePoint is a plus
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to work both independently and within a matrixed organization
Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and vendors
