Prototype Vehicle Mechanic / Fabricator
We are seeking a skilled Prototype Vehicle Mechanic/Fabricator to support hands-on experimental vehicle builds, component modifications, and prototype assembly work. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced, technical environment and takes pride in quality craftsmanship.
The hourly pay rate for this long-term contract opportunity is $26.50-$31.50/hr
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in completing in-house experimental vehicle builds, rebuilds, and modification projects.
• Fabricate parts using detailed prints or layouts, utilizing tools such as drills, shears, brake press, lathes, Bridgeport, ¾ CNC mill, water jet, welding equipment, and various metal forming tools.
• Assemble prototype vehicles and components using drawings or verbal instructions.
• Modify, update, and machine components by hand or with equipment.
• Support instrumentation installation and vehicle preparation for component/vehicle compliance testing.
• Rivet, weld, machine, assemble, and install components on vehicles.
• Assist with testing and evaluation of parts and systems.
• Provide diagnostics on powertrain, cooling, fuel, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Assist in training new mechanics.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of related technical experience.
• ASE Certification preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Light fabrication and welding skills required.
• CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Basic PC skills.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to read screens, drawings, and documents with clear vision.
• Ability to hear and communicate effectively.
• Strong hand eye coordination and manual dexterity.
• Ability to bend, stretch, twist, climb, kneel, and move throughout various work areas.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and perform physically repetitive or strenuous tasks.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Working Conditions
• Work occurs in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to varying temperatures, weather, heights, and loud noise.
• Requires strong teamwork, communication, and ability to follow instructions.
• Must work methodically and maintain concentration in a fast paced, repetitive setting to ensure quality and accuracy.
Travel Requirements
• Up to 30% travel may be required to support prototype activities.
