Project Manager – Capital Natural Gas Projects (Contract)
Location: Detroit, MI (Hybrid – onsite Tuesday–Thursday)
Pay Rate: $35.57/hour
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Contract Type: Long - Term Contract with potential extension or direct hire
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support intermediate-to-large capital Natural Gas construction projects across Michigan, with a primary focus in Southeast Michigan. This role partners closely with engineering, construction, procurement, and external contractors to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget using formal project management practices.
This is a long-term contract opportunity with the potential for extension or conversion to a direct-hire role based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead capital natural gas construction projects from scope development through close-out
Define project scope and coordinate schedules, cost estimates, and engineering specifications
Oversee engineering, design, installation, testing, commissioning, and project close-out activities
Manage project budgets, expenditures, and change control
Coordinate procurement activities including bid reviews, contractor selection, and vendor evaluations
Support daily on-site construction activities and contractor oversight
Track and deliver against key performance metrics including scope, schedule, and budget
Communicate project status, risks, and milestones to internal and external stakeholders
Evaluate project risks and recommend mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Maintain accurate project documentation and records
Conduct weekly construction site visits across assigned project locations
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, Project Management, or Business/Management
Minimum of 6 years of project management experience
Experience managing capital or infrastructure projects
Strong working knowledge of scheduling and financial tools (Excel, MS Project, Primavera, SAP, Maximo, or similar)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Natural Gas design or construction project management experience
Utility or energy industry operations experience
Road right-of-way design or construction project experience
Ability to travel to project sites across Michigan
Work Environment
Hybrid role with expected presence at headquarters Tuesday through Thursday
Weekly site visits required
