Product Engineer
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with appropriate production and process staff to understand the fastener, fitting, and hose/tube requirements of a particular application or product.
Identifies, selects, or develops fasteners, fittings, and tubes/hoses based on weight, strength, heat and cold tolerance, cost, and durability.
Approves releasing engineering designs at experimental, test, or development phases of the program.
Develops/audits torque strategy across all North American plants in compliance with design and contract requirements.
Oversees or may assist in the setup and monitoring of product testing.
Interacts with and facilitates contact with government partners and customers, including travel to U.S. military bases.
Provides engineering analysis of field problems and, as required, travels to investigate field issues.
Performs other duties and special tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Five to seven years of experience in total vehicle or component design and product release.
Required product knowledge includes automotive fluid transport tubes, hoses, and fittings.
Desired product knowledge includes fasteners and joint design, coatings and corrosion protection, fluid mechanics, adhesives, production process development, product testing, and military ground vehicle systems.
Familiarity with engineering tools and methodologies including DFMEAs, DVPs, testing, control plans, PPAP, and VAVE.
Self-motivated and results-oriented with a proactive approach, strong planning skills, and diligent follow-up.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with MS Project, SharePoint, and TeamCenter is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail are required.
Physical Effort
Sight: Must be able to regularly read computer screens, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to safely and efficiently accomplish work tasks. This includes the ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Hearing: Must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate effectively.
Working Conditions
Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and may be assigned to a specific shift or work hours. The role requires the ability to perform job functions in varying and difficult work conditions, including extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, working at heights, and exposure to constant or intermittent loud noises.
Teamwork: Works with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.
Listening Skills: Requires the ability to understand and properly use machinery to ensure safety and accuracy.
Ability to Follow Instructions: Tasks and responsibilities are assigned by management and may vary; ability to follow instructions competently is required.
Methodical Approach: Production lines follow defined processes, requiring a methodical approach to ensure tasks are completed in the correct order.
Concentration: The position may involve repeating the same or similar tasks; sustained concentration is required for quality control in a fast-paced environment.
Travel Requirements
Up to 25% travel may be required.
