We are seeking a dependable Helper (Driver Assistant) to team with a Route Driver and assist with the collection of waste and/or recyclable materials. This role requires physical stamina, teamwork, and attention to safety protocols.
Pay Rate: $15/hour
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: 5:30 AM until work is completed
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the driver in safely collecting residential or commercial waste/recyclables.
- Load and empty containers manually or using mechanical equipment.
- Support backing maneuvers by spotting for the driver.
- Operate hoisting devices to lift and empty bins into the truck hopper.
- Communicate safety concerns, incidents, or customer issues to the Route Manager or Dispatch.
- Navigate service interruptions such as blocked streets or inaccessible receptacles.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory safety meetings and training.
- Assist other drivers as needed to ensure route completion.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Must have less than 1 year of related work experience.
- Must provide and wear 6-inch lace-up boots.
Preferred:
- Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to use hand, arm, leg, and finger coordination.
- Frequently lift objects weighing over 25 pounds; occasionally up to 70 pounds.
- Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to dirt, odors, loud noise, and physical elements common in waste collection settings.
