Configuration Management Specialist

Contract: $35-40/hr 

Position Summary
The Configuration Management Specialist supports engineering and program teams by assisting with Configuration Management efforts. This role helps ensure configured releases, documentation, and deliverables are organized, tracked, and aligned with program schedules, contractual requirements, and approved Configuration Management processes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with engineering efforts pertaining to Configuration Management
  • Works effectively in a team environment with various stakeholders
  • Assists with organizing the delivery of Configuration Management contractual deliverables
  • Monitors and tracks progress to help ensure configured releases are delivered in a timely manner and meet schedule expectations
  • Helps define and document release content and contributes to rollout planning in alignment with change management processes
  • Coordinates with stakeholders for releases, including communicating updates and managing expectations under guidance
  • Helps prepare materials for weekly Change Control Board (CCB) meetings and records meeting minutes
  • Assists in compiling Configuration Management metrics for quarterly Program Management Review (PMR) meetings
  • Supports alignment with the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
  • Helps ensure program compliance with the Configuration Management Plan

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic understanding of PDM/PLM systems such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or SAP
  • Ability to help develop process documentation and training materials related to Configuration Management
  • Familiarity with military specifications and standards (e.g., MIL‑STD‑31000) preferred but not required
  • Awareness of SAE standards for vehicle design and Configuration Management (e.g., SAE EIA‑649‑1A)
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and the ability to multitask
  • Exposure to military vehicle systems (HFE, Powertrain, Chassis, Armor, Body, Electrical) is beneficial
  • Ability to read blueprints or schematics to identify vehicle and mechanical parts, with a mechanical background and parts manual reading skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Security clearance preferred or ability to obtain one

Physical Effort

  • Sight: Must be able to regularly read computer screens, reports, and documents with clarity, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate regularly

Working Conditions

  • Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. Employees must be able to perform job functions in environments with varying conditions, including extreme cold or heat, inclement weather, elevated locations, and constant or intermittent loud noise
  • Teamwork: Works with others to ensure workplace efficiency
  • Listening Skills: Must understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure accurate task completion
  • Ability to Follow Instructions: Tasks and responsibilities vary; the role requires the ability to follow instructions competently
  • Methodical Approach: Production environments follow defined processes, requiring tasks to be completed in the correct order
  • Concentration: May perform repetitive tasks in a fast‑paced environment, requiring strong focus to maintain quality and accuracy

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel will be required
