Lab Automation Technician – High Throughput DNA Extraction
Location: Research Triangle Park, NC
THIS IS A LONG-TERM CONTRACT POSITION WITH A PAY RATE OF $26.50/HOUR (Possible extension or direct hire. Benefits available)
About the Role:
Join our dynamic team as a Lab Automation Technician, where you'll play a crucial role in processing over 500,000 cotton and soybean samples annually. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a high-throughput laboratory environment and is passionate about molecular biology and genetics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform repetitive DNA extractions using semi and fully automated laboratory platforms.
- Follow pre-established protocols to ensure consistency and quality of DNA extractions from multiple crop species.
- Operate laboratory automation and liquid handling platforms efficiently.
- Manage daily laboratory duties, including reagent preparation, consumable stocking, sample reception, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Register completed work using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Assist senior analysts with downstream processes like fluorescence-based PCR for GM technology confirmation and zygosity determination.
- Communicate proactively on the progress of assigned projects.
- Interact positively and collaboratively with team members.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology or Genetics.
- Minimum of two years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Experience in a high-throughput testing lab handling over 200,000 samples per year.
- Proficient in DNA isolation techniques and fluorescence-based PCR.
- Strong critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Familiarity with laboratory automation, liquid handling platforms, and LIMS software systems.
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Windows 7, SharePoint, and MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Prior experience with plants or agricultural crops is a plus but not required.
